More than one hundred years of soap production plants

A company history of more than one hundred years is a very long time. To have been around for so long and not show your age is remarkable, and only achieved by making sure that fresh blood is injected into the company at the right time to continue where experience has left off. SELA is located in Harbke, near by Helmstedt, the heart of Germany between Hannover and Berlin, and is the world's oldest manufacturer of soap machines. The region between Braunschweig and Helmstedt is home to a large number of High Tech companies. The famous Technical University in Braunschweig has played a vital part in supporting these companies by providing highly qualified university graduates to develop and implement the latest technologies. And this is precisely what SELA has profited from in the past and will continue to benefit from in the future as a pioneer of technical innovations.

Successful all over the world

Hermann Seeländer and Robert Weber founded the Weber + Seeländer Machine Factory in 1893. By 1900, the company, which now consisted of 30 employees, supplied the whole German soap industry. After 1945, the opening up of non-European markets heralded a new chapter in the company history. Rigorous technical further development of the soap production plants guaranteed Weber + Seeländer international competitiveness and economic growth. By the middle of the fifties, the number of employees had risen to 100, and 50 % of output was exported. In 1997 the SELA Maschinen GmbH started their activities in order to maintain this tradition bound to quality and progress.

Optimistically into the future

The last fifteen years were characterised by the development of new further-improved soap manufacturing processes, and especially: improvement in soap quality, reduction in energy consumption, and plant optimisation. Today future-oriented and committed teams in management, design, finishing, sales and services, ensure that Sela will continue to be the company of choice in the decades to come: because of its competence and reliability -progress, one of our company traditions.
